Resumen:
The results of the reanalysis of the bioarchaeological collection generated in 1925 by Samuel Kirkland Lothrop during his fieldwork in the Parana Delta are presented. Through the application of modern methods on human remains from Arroyo Malo, El Cerrillo and Arroyo Sarandí archaeological sites -currently deposited in La Plata Museum- new data is produced about the minimum number of individuals and the age-sex structure of the sample. In addition, using other sources (publications, drawings of the field notebook and photographs) we were able to reconstruct the multiple burial practices of the three sites. In the Arroyo Malo Guaraní settlement secondary burials in urns and a primary burial in the ground were identified. El Cerrillo and Arroyo Sarandí sites show some similarities on the presence of primary burials, secondary funerary packages, bone accumulations, isolated bones and skeletons in large part articulated with some bones that were intentionally relocated from their anatomic position. These results complement our studies on artifactual assemblages recovered in these same sites by Lothrop, which, in turn, allows us to understand the cultural context in which these mortuary practices were developed.
