Isolation and characterization of microsatellite loci in the fruit tree weevil Naupactus xanthographus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae): cross- amplification in related species of the Naupactus-Pantomorus complex.

In the present study, we have isolated and characterized 22 novel microsatellites from N. xanthographus and have tested their cross-amplification in 18 additional related species. Ten out of 22 microsatellites were amplified in the source species. Nine of these 22 primer pairs for these microsatellite loci also cross-amplified in 17 species of this complex. These markers will be available for population structure studies and the genetic consequences of culture colonization of these weevils.
