Resumen:
SUMMARY: Twenty six years ago, the Comision Tecnica Mixta del Frente Maritimo published a catalogue of marine decapod and stomatopod crustaceans registered in coasts, continental shelf and slope, and deep waters of Argentina (Boschi et al., 1992), that included 93 species of decapods. Later, a list of decapods of Uruguay appeared with 107 marine and estuarine species (Zolessi and Philippi, 1995). Since then, the acknowledgement of the importance of biodiversity for the human kind and the many processes affecting it, such as the growing rates of biological invasions and global climate change, make necessary to review previous knowledge on local biodiversity. Moreover, the increasing use of molecular techniques in taxonomic revisions have unveiled the existence of misidentifications, cryptic species and species complex in numbers that significantly alter our previous considerations on species richness at the local and regional scales. The present catalogue includes the addition and removal of species and an actualization of the published bibliography related with them. The study area comprises estuaries and marine waters of the Southwestern Atlantic Ocean in front of Uruguay and Argentina (33-60oS), including the coasts, continental shelf and slope, the contiguous abysal plains, the Malvinas, Georgias del Sur and Sandwich del Sur Islands and the Scotia Sea. A total of 210 species of decapod crustaceans are listed in this catalogue: 78 shrimps and prawns (Dendrobranchiata and Caridea), 13 lobsters and ghost shrimps, (Astacidea, Axiidea, Gebiidea, Achelata, Polychelidae), 39 king crabs, hermit crabs and other ?not true? crabs (Anomura) and 79 true crabs (Brachyura). Three families of Dendrobranchiata and 18 of Pleocyemata (4 of Caridea, and 13 of Brachyura) not cited by Boschi et al. (1992) have been registered, as well as 2 infra-orders of Pleocyemata (Gebiidea and Polychelidae). The additions to Boschi et al. (1992) list are of species: 1) only cited previously in waters of Uruguay, 2) from deep and/or southern waters, 3) coastal invaders and 4) new, described for the first time in the southern tip of America. Eight species cited in previous papers have been excluded due to synonymy or mistakes in geographic location, and 14 have been renamed to date.
