Resumen:
Abstract: Arterial stiffening is a well-recognized process that is particularly important in patients with chronickidney disease. It was demonstrated that aortic stiffness is an important independent predictor of all cause andcardiovascular mortality in hemodialyzed patients. Arterial stiffness has been assessed through pulse wave velocity for along time, and several ways of characterizing elastic arteries were used to evaluate specific territories and to comparedifferent vascular pathways. This methodology includes the development of new indexes of arterial elasticity. The purposeof this revision is to analyze the results of the scientific research in the field of arterial stiffness, in which hemodialyzedpatients were involved, emphasizing clinical and in vitro investigations performed by our group compared withcontributions previously reported in the specialized literature.
