Resumen:
We find a bound for the two-dimensional classical action (four-dimensional energy per unit length) for an SU(N) gauge theory with spontaneous symmetry breaking. This bound is saturated when a particular relation between coupling constants holds; the corresponding vortex configur- ation satisfies a first-order system of differential equations-the Bogomol´nyi equations.
