Resumen:
Current research on the Nile Valley in the times previous to the emergence of the state usually applies the term Predynastic, which constitutes a projection of a historical sequence mainly based in the political history of Ancient Egypt. However, in that time, there is no sociopolitical parameters which goes beyond the boundaries of communities. These communities have to be the point of departure of the analysis of the sociopolitical situation of the Nile Valley before the state. Funerary practices and iconographic testimonies show some indications of social differentiation, probably including the existence of communal elites and some kind of leadership. Besides, different social ambits ?related to economical, ideological and warlike practices? also allow to suppose the presence of leaders. This kind of evidences seems to fit well with the anthropological concept of chiefdom societies.
