Resumen:
Stratigraphy, sedimentology and palynology of the Sloggett Formation, continenta Paleogene, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina. At Bahia Sloggett, the Punta Cactus Formation and the Sloggett Formation are exposed in a small tectonic window below a thrust block of the Lemarire Formation (Jurassic). The Slogget Formation presents a complex arrangement of lenticular beds consisting of tw members of four facies associations. The basal dark gray Gris Member consists of massive carbonaceous mudstone cut by conglomérate and pebbly sandstone channels. In abrup contact, the overlying yellowish Bayo Member is a major complex of lenticular conglomérate and sandsone grading laterally and verticlly to heterolithic mudstones and coal measures, containing large tres, and channelled conglomérate. Facies and palynology suggest a fluvial system with humid and vegetated areas. The Gris Member is interpreted as floodplain deposits cut by small channels. The recorded beech, podocarp, and proteacean pollen, fern and fungal spores, and fresh-water algae from the Sloggett Formation, together with the absence of typical Oligocene-Miocene palynomorphs, suggest most probably a late Eocene age.
