Resumen:
Thrombosis is not unusual in multiple myeloma. Therisk of venous and arterial thrombosis is highest duringthe first year after diagnosis of myeloma andmonoclonal gammapathy of unknown significance.Thrombotic events may be their initial presentingsymptom, and the etiology is multifactorial. Most ofthese events occur in venous territory. Arterial thrombosisis generally associated with cardiovascular riskfactors, such as hypertension or smoking or myelomachemotherapy.● We report a case of central retinal artery occlusion asthe initial symptom for myeloma in a patient with noassociated cardiovascular risks. This is a novel presentingsymptom of myeloma.● This finding justifies the inclusion of paraproteinemiaand myeloma screening in patients with central retinalartery occlusion, even in the absence of other myelomasymptoms.
