Resumen:
Numerical simulations indicate that for the Southern Observatory a layer up to about 10 cm of ice could be formed in the coolest winters if no insulation is present. As the optical properties of this ice layer are quite similar to the liquid water, only subtle differences in the pulse shape of a photomultiplier with and without ice would be expected. An experimental test performed in a 20-liter tank seems to confirm this hypothesis.
