Resumen:
ABSTRACT 6 In the present study, the mineral content of ten garlic cultivars –all belonging to the 7 Argentinean germplasm and cultivated under the same agro-ecologic conditions– has 8 been evaluated with a view to achieving its characterization. 9 Four of them were implanted in different geographic regions in order to observe how 10 the environment influences the cultivars. Mineral profiles (Br, Rb, Na, La, Cr, Cs, Sc, 11 Fe, Zn, Co and Eu) were determined through Neutronic Activation Analysis (NAA). 12 The results obtained for mineral concentrations and trace elements of each sample 13 constitute the collection of data submitted to Multivariate Data Analysis (MDA) of 14 principal components (PC). Hence, the general objective of the present study has been 15 to evaluate whether the mineral content of garlic cultivars is more influenced by genetic 16 rather than by agro-ecologic conditions. It has been hereby demonstrated that garlic 17 cultivars cultivated under identical agro-ecologic conditions have been distributed in 18 groups by using only four metals as variables. It has also got to be proven that a 19 methodology requiring the use of mineral profile associated to a MDA constitutes an 20 adequate potential tool for determining the geographic origin of garlic bulbs. 21 22 Key words: Allium sAllium s
