Resumen:
Asymmetric antibodies are unable to generate the major immune effector mechanisms. They function as univalent due to steric hindrance present in one of the Fab regions. taking into account that on adding placental culture supernatants (PCS) to a hybridoma, an increase in asymmetric synthesis is obsserved, and the fact that IL-6 is synthesized by the trophoblast the aim of this work was to identified the responsible factor which regulates the IgG glycosylation. We demonstrated that a 23-27 kDa human placental factor which responds to IL-6 features increases the proportion of asymmetric antibodies produced by mouse IgG1 hybridoma cells. These observations and considering that with glycosyltransferase modulation, suggest a participation in fetal protection by increasing the proportion of asymmetric antibodies.
