Resumen:
An alteration in the pattern of protein glycosylation has been described during an acute phase reaction. Here we evaluated the effect of the inflammatory response produced by subcutaneous inoculation of turpentine oil with or without the prior oral administration of dexamethasone, on the synthesis and glycosylation of IgG in rats, by analyzing sera. We found that during acute inflammation there was a decrease in the synthesis of IgG which was not affected by prior administration of dexamethasone, however, the glucocorticoid inhibited the increase in IgG binding to ConA observed upon administering the inflammatory agent. These results suggest that IgG synthesis and glycosylation play a rol in the modulation of the inflammatory response.
