Resumen:
Purpose: The presentation of a program for the Conservation and Promotion of Hearing aimed at the adolescent population with a view to: 1-detecting hearing disorders early as well as their relation to psychosocial and acoustic variables; 2- devising a follow?up of the studied variables; 3- analyzing the relation between hearing disorders and genetic factors; 4-raising social awareness on noise and its consequences. Method: The program, designed to be carried out along seven years, includes Technical Schools in the City of Cordoba (Argentina). Every student in those schools will be examined at ages 14/15 and will be re-examined at ages 17/18. There will be a yearly follow-up in cases in which some disorder is detected. Results and Conclusions:The planning and organization of the program together with its launching in the first of the selected schools are described as well as the latest findings on: a) The hearing state of the adolescents studied (aged 14/15); b) their recreational habits, personality traits and attitudes; c) the sound immision they are exposed to during their recreational activities.
