Resumen:
Seven new prenylated phloroglucinols (yungensins A?G) were isolated from the diethyl ether extract of the scaly rhizomes and roots of an Argentine collection of the fern Elaphoglossum yungense. All the compounds contained them carry a geranyl group attached to the filicinic acid-type residue. Their structures were established by extensive spectroscopic analyses (1 and 2D NMR, HRMS, and FTIR). The diethyl ether extract of E. yungense and yungensins A?F display antibacterial effects against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa with MICs ranging from 10 to 200 mg/mL. All tested phloroglucinols, except for yungensin D, produce bacteriolysis of S. aureus at MBC or higher doses (50-200 mg/mL). At 10 mg/mL, the ether extract of E. yungense as well as yungensins A, B, D-F alter (stimulate or inhibit) the biofilm production in both microorganisms.
