Resumen:
Objectives: To present normative data and the discriminative validity in dementia of the Buschke Memory Impairment Screen (MIS) test adapted for Argentina, and to value its utility as screening instrument comparing with other test used of habitual use. Methods: 183 subjects were selected, including 88 patients with dementia, 54 with Alzheimer´s disease (EA) and 41 controls matched by age, educational level, gendre and Beck depression inventory. MIS administered itself, a test of memory of four words that uses specific techniques of codification and it scores in a rank from 0 to 8. Predictive values positive (VPP) and negative (VPN) and likelihood positive ratio (LR+) were calculated. Also the curves were obtained type Receiver Operator Characteristics (ROC). Results: Curves ROC presented an excellent screening exactitude for dementia (0,91) and still better for the EA (0,95). Curves ROC presented an excellent diagnostic exactitude for dementia (0,91) and still better for the EA (0,95). In dementia in general, the cutoff was 6 (sensitivity 82%, specificity 90%; VPP 94%, VPN 71%, LR+ 8.5). In DTA, the cutoff was 5 (sensitivity 85%, specificity 95%; VPP 95%, VPN 83%, LR+ 17.46). Conclusions: The Argentinean Spanish version of the Buschke MIS had high discriminative validity as a screening test for dementia and DTA.Objectives: To present normative data and the discriminative validity in dementia of the Buschke Memory Impairment Screen (MIS) test adapted for Argentina, and to value its utility as screening instrument comparing with other test used of habitual use.
