Resumen:
Abstract Paleomagnetic studies on sediments sampled at two archaeological excavations from South Argentina were carried out. The usual laboratory techniques for paleomagnetic studies were applied to isolate the directions of stable remanent magnetization. Despite its preliminary nature, the secular variations recorded in these sediments have yielded a good correlation with those obtained from lake sediments in the same area. This correlation confirmed the ages determined by C14 dating and archaeological methods. On the other hand the data, although preliminary, suggest the possibility of the record of an excursion or reversed polarity event. If it were to be confirmed, this conclusion would agree with the Etrussian excursion, recorded on archaeological pottery and sediments from Russia (about 2700 years bp) and anomalous changes in declination and low inclination values recorded on varves from Sweden (about 2800 years bp)
