Resumen:
Activated carbons (ACs) with a highly developedporosity have been prepared from a lignocellulosicprecursor (coffee husk) for environmental pollutantadsorption. Characterization results show that these materialsexhibit a high amount oxygen groups and high specificsurface area with micro mesopores. From SEM results wecan see the collapse of large pores at longer activation times. The ACs obtained from coffee husk waste is a promisingadsorbent material, with high adsorption capacity for themethylene blue dye (MB). Thus, the use of the coffee huskfor AC preparation, with porosity development, showed as agood alternative for the waste transformation. Results alsoshowed that the adsorption of MB by the AC-1/1 was muchbetter than commercial AC from Merck.
