In this work, the synthesis and characterisation of two aluminium pillared clays is introduced and their thermal, hydrothermal and chemical stability is studied. The source material was a Spanish clay with a high percentage of montmorillonite, called SerBca. This clay was pillared using two different methods with the same relationship metal/clay. Some differences in the characteristics were found, but both showed thermal and hydrothermal stability until 700 ◦Cand chemical stability between pH values from 1.5 to 11. These characteristics make those materials appropriate to be used in processes such as heterogeneous catalysis, where those conditions are required.
