Resumen:
Laboratory and pot experiments were conducted to study the allelopathic effects of almond plant on seed germination of cress and fenugreek. In Petri dish bioassay, aqueous extracts of leaf, bark and mixture of leaf + bark were assayed at 0, 0.5, 1.0 and 2.0% (v/v) concentrations on cress and fenugreek seeds. In pot experiments, seeds of test species were sown in soil mixed with leaf and bark residues at 0, l.0 and 2.0% (w/w). Petri dish assays indicated that the lowest germination of cress and fenugreek was observed in seeds subjected to extracts of leaf + bark mixture. Bark extracts proved most inhibitory to radicle length of both cress and fenugreek. The increasing concentration of extracts, significantly reduced the germination and radicle length of both crops. In pot studies, bark extracts were most inhibitory to seed germination, hence, lowest dry matter was observed in cress and fenugreek grown in soil mixed with almond bark.
