AN INTESTINAL TRANSPLANT program was begunat the Mount Sinai Medical Center in 1998, inconjunction with a program of home parenteral nutritionand intestinal rehabilitation. Protocols were developed tointegrate transplantation with other therapies.1 The clinicalprogram utilized an algorithm that integrated all availabletherapies for patients with intestinal insufficiency or failure.Here we review our results using this algorithm to treat aninitial series of patients referred for intestinal transplantevaluation, with particular attention to those patients whoultimately received transplants.
