Resumen:
The copulatory pattern of Akodon azarae is described to characterize the mating system of the species. The experimental animals were mated only once  and each experience finished after half an hour without an intromission. The results showed a basic copulatory pattern markedly stereotyped, with multiple intromissions and low frequency of eyaculation. During the copulation A. azarae demostrated shorter intromission latencies and graater resistance from female to the male than the observed in monogamous species. A. azarae did not show post ejaculatory interation between female and male. Observations support the hypothesis that A. azarae presents a mating system with polygamous features.
