Resumen:
Latin American business history started to gain recognition
as a field ofscholarship in the late 1980s and now is of potential interest to the
international business community. This encouraging scenario presents challenges
for anyone attempting to highlight the vitality in both fields, and that the
latest international literature reviews have considered the two disciplines separately.
Our choices as editors of this special issue hinge on Latin American
business and economic historians remaining part of the same communities, with
strong interaction between the two fields. In recent debates on the future of both
disciplines, the need for open boundaries has been underscored as a means
designing truly global agendas, with a reduced focus on traditional Western
meta-narratives
