Resumen:
The Irish settlers played an important role in the process that led to the conquest and occupation of the northern section of the Pampas. Departing from an analysis of the social structure formed by the Irish during the second half of the 19th century in Argentina, the present article examines the traces of these settlers on the above mentioned territory, particularly a series of catholic rural chapels, Given their importance in the social and cultural life of the community, these chapels can be regarded as strongholds of the Irish presence in Argentina, a country that is home to the largest Irish community in South America.
