Resumen:
This paper is an overwiev of current chemometric methodologies using second-order advantage, to solve problems coming from the analysis of highly complex matrices. Among the existing algorithms, it focuses on the more used ones such as the standard for second order data analysis approaches PARAFAC (parallel factor analysis) and MCR-ALS (multivariate curve resolution alternating least squares), as well as the most recently implemented BLLS (bilinear least-squares), U-PLS/RBL (unfolded partial least squares/residual bilinearization), all of them based on linear models, and ANN/RBL (artificial neural networks followed of residual bilinearization), this latter achieving the second order advantage in systems involving a non-linear behaviour. Moreover, it also deals with the nature of these drawbacks, as well as another ones which are inherent to the analytical technique in question.
