This paper presents the finding of discoidal stones in Amigo Oeste archaeological site, on the Somuncurá plateau (Río Negro, Argentina). This class of artefacts has been reported in other early sites in the Southern Cone of South America, in some cases associated with fishtail points. The discoidal stones from Somuncurá show technological and morphological similarities with the rest of the known assemblage of discoidal stones from South America. Its frequency in Amigo Oeste is interpreted as another feature that sets this hill as a landmark in the landscape of the early peopling of Patagonia.
