Resumen:
The essential oils from two species belonging to the Schinus genus (Anacardiaceae), Schinus areira L. and Schinus longifolia (Lindl.) Speg., have been studied for their in vitro antiacetylcholinesterase activity and antioxidant activity. The chemical composition of the oils obtained by hydrodistillation was determined by GC-MS. Fruits and leaves of S. areira were analyzed separately. Essential oil from S. longifolia elicited a marked enzymatic inhibition (IC50 = 20.04 ± 1.03 mg/ml) and radical scavenger activity (IC50 = 25.16 ± 2.38 mg/ml). Essential oil from S. areira leaves resulted to be more active than fruits oil in both bioassays.
