Resumen:
During the last years, the declination of several amphibian species has been reported all over the world. Many causes have been implicated in this phenomena like destruction of their habitats, fungus and bacteria infections, chemical pollution, depletion of stratospheric ozone, etc. In this report evidences are presented on the adverse effect of several insecticides on the fertilization process and embryonic development of the toad Bufo arenarum, Hensel. Embrynic and larvae growth rate are important ecological variables influencing the size of the larvae, the susceptibility to predators and even the success of future reproduction. Pesticides have a pronounced effect on these parameters affecting amphibian population survival.
