Resumen:
We characterized 20 microsatellites in the palm Syagrus romanzoffiana, a keystone species in the Atlantic Forest of South America, after testing cross-species amplification of 140 previously developed loci. The number of alleles varied from one to nine and the expected heterozygosity from 0 to 0.74. The ten most variable markers, showing no linkage disequilibrium or heterozygote deficiency, yielded a mean expected heterozygosity of 0.53 and a combined probability of identity < 1x10-6. These are the first microsatellites characterized in this Neotropical palm, which are suitable for studies of intraspecific genetic variation and presumably transferable to other Syagrus species.
