Resumen:
The effect of adding submicrometre ceramic particles during the fabrication of AlSi6Cu4 foams byindirect foaming is studied. Particles in the range of 0.4-0.7 microns are selected to analyse thefeasibility of foam stabilisation with low quantities of non-metallic additives. Two different kinds ofparticles are employed in affinity with the chemical composition of the chosen aluminium alloy:alumina and mullite. The observed changes in the topology of the cell walls of the resultant foamsare considered, regarding particles reactivity with the molten metal and foaming temperature. Inboth cases the resultant material is observed to be stable over longer foaming times. Fracturebehaviour on bending is discussed.
