Resumen:
The cyclic nucleotide second messenger cGMP generated by activate soluble guanylyl cyclase (sGC) in penile smooth muscle cells regulates penile erection by decreasing contractile tone. Activation of sGC requires nitric oxide (NO) released in the penis upon sexual stimulation from neural and endothelial sources containing NO synthase (NOS), respectively termed nNOS y eNOS. The cGMPC is catabolyzed by phosphodiesterases type 5ª (PDE5A) using the PDE5 inhibitors sildenafil, vardenafil y tadalafil, has proven quite successful as a clinical pharmacotherapeutic approach to treat erectil dysfunction.
