This species is distinguished from other species of the genus in the presence of a triangular otic plate on the squamosal, projected markedly above the dorsal surface of the skull. The posterolateral end of posterior ramus is at the level of the mandibular articulation and its external edge bears a longitudinal crest, which continue ventrally, as a lateral wall. In lateral view, the length of the otic ramus represents more than 55% the length of the ventral ramus. The atlas bears a pair of cotyles with discontinuous articulating surfaces. The species C. prisca Ameghino, 1899 is considered species inquerenda.
