Resumen:
In this paper we describe a lizard maxilla from the La Playa Formation (Miocene – Pliocene) in Córdoba province. We also review the extinct species of Propodinema Ambrosetti 1890 (P. paranensis and P. oligocena) from the Itugainzó Formation (Miocene – Pliocene) in Entre Ríos. Though these fossil are lost, the original description by Ambrosetti is very detailed. The fossil from Córdoba was originally cited as Tupinambis sp. and latter as Tupinambis merianae though it was never described nor figured. We refer this fossil to Tupinambis but no specific assignation is possible because the maxilla cannot bet differentiate from that of the other Tupinambis with molariform dentition. Propodinema is synonymized with Tupinambis, the species proposed are considered invalid since the characters that were consider to support them fall with in the variation ranges observed in Tupinambis.
