Resumen:
In the context of the conference "Building Sustainable Communities in Mexico and USA" organized by the Center for US/Mexico Alliance for Community Renewal, UNT in January 2003, we were invited to present a view of sustainability and conservation based on our experience at the southern extreme of the Americas: the Region of Cape Horn. First, we introduce the regional scenario of biological and cultural conservation, and then we provide an overview of our approach by defining ten criteria that aim to achieve social well-being and biocultural conservation at the austral tip of the continent.
