Resumen:
A taxonomic revision of the Tribe Aequipectini from the Upper Burdigalian, LowerMiocene Pirabas Formation in Brazil) resulted in an identification of Leptopectendaideleus, Perapecten tetristriatus and description of Iemanjavola monlafertei gen. nov.et sp. nov. The genus Perapecten is re-validated, P. tetristriatus being the first fossilrepresentative of the genus, extending it back to the Early Miocene of the westernAtlantic Ocean and Middle Miocene–Pliocene P. scabrellus from the MediterraneanSea/Central Paratethys is included into Perapecten. We also reported the oldest recordof Leptopecten, which along with Perapecten, seem to have originated in the EarlyMiocene tropical region of the western Atlantic Ocean and dispersed during the Middleor Late Miocene to the eastern Pacific (Leptopecten) through the Central AmericanSeaway and the North Atlantic to Europe (Perapecten) by means of the CircumtropicalCurrent and Gulf Stream/North Atlantic Drift, respectively.
