Resumen:
Research on the genomic architecture of speciation hasincreasingly revealed the importance of structural variants (SVs) that affectthe presence, abundance, position, and/or direction of a nucleotide sequence.SVs include large chromosomal rearrangements such as fusion/fissions andinversions and translocations, as well as smaller variants such asduplications, insertions, and deletions (CNVs). Although we have ample evidencethat SVs play a key role in speciation, the underlying mechanisms differdepending on the type and length of the SV, as well as the ecological,demographic, and historical context. We review predictions and empiricalevidence for classic processes such as underdominance due to meioticaberrations and the coupling effect of recombination suppression beforeexploring how recent sequencing methodologies illuminate the prevalence anddiversity of SVs. We discuss specific properties of SVs and their impactthroughout the genome, highlighting that multiple processes are at play, andpossibly interacting, in the relationship between SVs and speciation. @font-face{font-family:Cambria;panose-1:2 4 5 3 5 4 6 3 2 4;mso-font-charset:0;mso-generic-font-family:auto;mso-font-pitch:variable;mso-font-signature:3 0 0 0 1 0;}p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal{mso-style-parent:"";margin:0cm;margin-bottom:.0001pt;mso-pagination:widow-orphan;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-ascii-font-family:Cambria;mso-ascii-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-fareast-font-family:Cambria;mso-fareast-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-hansi-font-family:Cambria;mso-hansi-theme-font:minor-latin;mso-bidi-font-family:"Times New Roman";mso-bidi-theme-font:minor-bidi;}div.Section1{page:Section1;}
