Resumen:
Political polarization has key relevancefor today´s democracies. Prior research on political science, social psychologyand cognitive neuroscience has tended to examine its effects on centralcountries (such as the US or European countries). Considering this gap, thegoal of this review is to examine the role of fake news in complexdecision-making and other cognitive processes in political polarization, and topresent insights from Argentina as a peripheral region case. With this aim, wediscuss cognitive effects of fake news on decision-making and politicalpolarization, and we highlight the role of refutation texts, as a tool that canpromote the revision of misinformation resulting from the exposure to fake newsand discuss applications to public policies.
