At the very heart of this stimulating and groundbreaking collective work is the ForSEAdiscovery Project, an initiative supported by the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network programme. As such, it stands for a growing international trend within maritime and nautical archaeology, that explores the potential of multi- and interdisciplinary approaches, in this case, with an emphasis on wood studies. Iberian maritime heritage, seafaring, and shipbuilding from the early modern period underlies the entire contribution, divided into 13 chapters. Along with Volume 2 (not reviewed here), the editors sought to examine different aspects of this complex global-scale phenomenon from a historical, archaeological, and archaeometric comparative view.
