Resumen:
We report on the ex vitro growing behavior of potted bulblets, from different sources, belonging to five Lilium genotypes. The potted bulblets were obtained from 1) in vitro cultivation, 2) scaling, 3) the basal zone of the shoot for L. longiflorum Thunb., L. lancifolium Thunb., L. x ‘Enchantment’, L. x ‘Cote d’Azur’ and L. x ‘Star Gazer’, or 4) axilar bulblets produced only by L. lancifolium. Sprouting of bulblets may follow different growth patterns, with or without aerial shoots. Bulblets producing aerial shoots in the first year of cultivation are desirable because they enlarge and reach commercial size faster. Lilium bulblets obtained by micropropagation techniques have a lower survival expectancy than bulblets from other sources, and most of them will not reach commercial size by the end of the second cultivation period due to their low weight and small diameter.
