This paper reproduces a dialogue between Claudia Fernández Speier, Raffaele Pinto and Juan Varela-Portas de Orduña on the challenges of translating— and commenting—Dante’s Divine comedy into Spanish. The dialogue explores the history of Spanish translations of Dante’s poem, as well as the main characteristics of that tradition, both in Spain and in Latin America, and it focuses especially on the very possibility and the limits of a poetic translation.
