Generalization across space in the relationship between cord grass (Spartina alterniflora) biomass and reflectance data by using Landsat ETM+ images

Resumen:
If we have different satellite images from a restricted geographical region taken with the same sensor (ETM+ from Landsat), at similar dates, and considering the same plant species (Spartina alterniflora), and correct them for radiometric and atmospheric distortions, there will be the same relationship between cord grass biomass and reflectance between sites. We tested this prediction in two saltmarshes from the SW Atlantic coast by using multivariate analysis. Reflectance data of Landsat ETM+ predicted biomass in both sites, but it was inconsistent when both methods were trained in one site and applied this relationship to other site.
