Resumen:
From the ethnobotanical and paleoethnobotanical perspectives, the concept of landscape includes the dimension of biocultural phenomenon, in the sense that it is a physically, culturally and historically determined environment. The aim of this work is to increase understanding of the construction, use and perception of different cultural landscapes in Argentina by means of the analysis of research results on the use of plants in regions such as the Northwest, Northeast, Patagonia and Cuyo. Studies included contemporary as well as past human communities, with a methodological approach corresponding to ethnobotany, ethnohistory and paleoethnobotany. The results indicate that societies, past and present, have not only interacted with the heterogeneity of their surroundings, but have also created biocultural heterogeneity in the landscape through domestication, successional management, and multiple use of the environment. The inclusion of culture in the interpretation of landscape is vital to the understanding of processes of change and should be included along with other academic viewpoints which consider Nature as something distant from man, stripped of human influence.
