Resumen:
From a stylistic approach, I argue that Ovid´s representation of chaos at the start of his Metamorphoses is a crucial poetic pattern of Lucan´s civil war narrative. Despite its philosophical and political implications, Ovid´s cosmogony functions as a reading code of Lucan´s epics through some thematic, stylistic, and symbolic echoes. The Bellum Ciuile develops the mythic concept of chaos in order to construct its version of Roman ciuile nefas. As a key model of Lucan´s poem, Ovidian primeval disorder allows, on the one hand, to deepen the diachronic manipulations of epic genre beyond its canonical debts to Vergil; on the other hand, it shows the transformations and further meanings of the carmen perpetuum outside its textual boundaries.
