Resumen:
To evaluate anthropogenic activities and their environmental impact on aquaticorganisms, an in situ experiment was performed in areas along the North Patagoniancoastline. Trace metals? concentrations in water on a harbor area and a reference sitewere quantified. In addition, Mytilus platensis ? metal accumulation and their effects onmetabolic parameters were measured. Results show higher concentrations of chrome, nickel and zinc in animals from the harbor area. Moreover, gills, digestive gland andmantle of M. platensis from the harbor area registered also higher concentration ofcopper and chrome. In digestive gland and in mantle, SOD activity and GSH contentwas augmented and reduced, respectively, in mussels from the port area. Thoseanimals registered higher mantle´s GST activity and also had higher lipid peroxidationirrespective of the organ. The harbor area has a negative impact on M. platensis andtheir effects on metal accumulation and oxidative imbalance are organ-specific.
