Resumen:
The igneous-metamorphic basement of western Sierra de La Huerta, western Sierras Pampeanas of San Juan province, is exposed in Loma de Las Chacras. The metamorphic basement, assigned to the Valle Fertil Complex, is characterized by mid grade amphibolite facies, and by low grade greenschist facies. Different formations are recognized based on the metamorphic grade and composition; the metamorphic rocks were derived from either igneous or sedimentary protoliths. The mineral assemblages are analyzed and a tentative P-T path is proposed based on index minerals. The different metamorphic sequences enable the reconstruction of the geologic history of this area from the point of view of global tectonic principles.
