Resumen:
The interpretation of the meanings of constructed space playsan important role in understanding how a certain societymight have been structured in the past. This paper presentsthe colony of Floridablanca (Patagonia, 18th century) andexamines how the different discourse levels are articulatedin the construction of the colony’s spaces according to theideal model of a social order based on the principles of theSpanish Enlightenment. The focus is on the convergenceand divergence between the material world and the narrativesreferring to such spaces created during the existenceof the colony. This approach, developed by an interdisciplinaryteam, involved the inclusion and interpretation ofhistorical, archaeological, and geophysical data. Studiedalong three lines of evidence, the narrative analyses andmaterial construction show how the discourse on the socialorganization of Floridablanca articulates convergence anddivergence from these planes in different ways for differentsectors of the colony.
