A sequence developed as a result of a Holocene sea level fluctuation is described according to diatom-assemblage analysis. The 1.5 m outcrop is close to Punta Hermengo, Miramar. This basin was infilled between 6680 and 3395 years BP. Life form and salinity tolerances of diatom taxa were used for the environment reconstruction, and multivariate analytical techniques were also applied. At the base of the section, high percentages of brackish - planktonic taxa represent a tidal channel infilling. Mesohalobous, benthic and epiphytic taxa characterize the overlying sediments suggesting a brackish, shallow and stable environment such as swamp with a small connection to the sea.
