Resumen:
We proposed an indirect method to estimate absolute abundance of the coypu Myocastor coypus based on the size and spatial dispersion of its burrows (ABSM), and tsted it with a direct method based on capture-removal of individuals (DM). Differences between slopes were tested using a parametric correlation test for the ABSM equation slope. There was a highly positive correlation between results of ABSM and MD (r=0.963, P=0.002). The ABSM equation slope did not differ significantly from 1 (P=0.05) and the power to detect differences was 93%. These results indicate that ABSM is precise and can be applied in a simple way, affecting neither the individuals nor disrupting the habitat.
