CONICET participated in the Science Film Festival in Beijing

“Shincal, la huella inca en Argentina”, a co-production of CONICET Documentary, the Science Ministry and the Azara Foundation, was shown during the opening ceremony.

The National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) participated in the fourth Science and Technology Film Festival in Beijing that took place on September 18th and 25th.

On this new edition of the festival, Pablo Kühnert, general coordinator of CONICET Documentary spoke at the opening ceremony together with renowned international directors, producers, communicators and scientists.

Kühnert highlighted the participation of CONICET at the festival and stated: “this shows that our production can be shown in any part of the world and receive very good reviews. This is a reward for the commitment policy with public communication of science and international recognition.”

For the opening of the festival at the China National Film Museum (IMAX), two films were selected, one of them was “Shincal, la huella inca en Argentina”, co-produced by CONICET Documentary, the Science Ministry and the Azara Foundation. The film is about the story of the old southern capital of the Inca Empire in the northwest of Argentina.

Kühnert also participated in the International Forum –summit meeting for leaders of the international cinema industry devoted to science and technology- where CONICET Documentary’s productions were shown: “Paleontología, Huellas de El Tranquilo”; “Bitácora, el continente blanco”; “Juana y Mateo contra el Chagas”; “Glaciares, agua del futuro”; “Vicuñas”; and “Shincal.”

Before coming back to the country, Kühnert was received by the Argentine ambassador Diego Ramiro Guelar through a meeting organized by Juan Cortelletti, Main Secretary of Cultural Affairs. Guelar was surprised for the amount of audiovisual material conducted at the documentary side of Council. Furthermore, Kühnert became involved in the organization of a film series as part of the visit in which President Mauricio Macri is going to undertake next year.

It is worth motioning that the participation of the Council at this international festival opens the door to the distribution of the contents of CONICET.

The Festival is an international science and technology event of the cinema industry organized by the The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China (SAPPRFT). This contest is a combination of state communication of science and international dissemination of cinematographic art.
