CONICET has climbed up 74 positions in the SCImago Ranking 2019: it is the best governmental science institution from Latin America

This ranking measures the institutions and universities that conduct scientific research in the entire world.


The National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET) climbed 183 positions in the SCImago 2019 Ranking, which measures the evaluation of almost 6500 academic and scientific institutions that do research in all the world. Compared to its position 257 in 2018, the Council has ascended 74 places.

If we consider the governmental agencies of Latin America that conduct research, CONICET is first in the ranking. Besides, from all the public, private and educational institutions, the ranking shows that CONICET is the best Argentine institution and the second best in the whole region.

In the same area of governmental agencies, but globally, the Council is 21st among 1400 institutions, climbing up 23 positions as regards 2018, and ranks 12th in the world considering the indicator Researcher in governmental agencies.

Among the measurement criteria, SCImago considers the most relevant factor what is linked to Research in terms of published scientific promotion and as altogether it has a 50% valuation. These indicators measure the normalized impact of scientific production, the excellence measure according to the publication in which the institution is the main contributor, the total of publications made in the period, the scientific leadership acquired at institutional level, the international collaboration, and the new indicator of this year: the percentage of documents published in Open Access journals.

In the first position of the SCImago ranking is the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
