The co-condensation in situ of tetraethoxysilane(TEOS)andmercaptopropyltrimethoxysilane(MPTMS)using cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide(CTAB)asatemplateresultsinthesynthesisofmultilayeredmesoporousstructuredSiO2 colloids with??onion-like??chemicalenvironments.ThiolgroupswereanchoredtoaninnerselectedSiO2 porouslayerinabilayeredcoreshellparticleproducingdifferentchemicalregionsinsidethecolloidallayeredstructure.X-RayPhotoelectronSpectroscopy(XPS)showsa preferentialanchoringofthe?SHgroupsinthedoublelayershellsystem,whileporosimetryandsimplechemicalmodificationsconfirmthatporesareaccessible.Wecanenvisionthesynthesisofinterestingcolloidalobjectswithdefinedchemicalenvironmentswithhighlycontrolledproperties
